Do You Have a Personal Statement of Faith Like Rahab?

Are you able to state clearly what you believe? Rahab did—and her statement of faith saved her life. Here’s what happened.

The time came for God’s people to enter the land God had promised them. Joshua, God’s appointed leader, sent two of his warriors to check out the walled city of Jericho. While there, they lodged at Rahab’s house. When the king of Jericho demanded Rahab hand over the men, Rahab acted with courage and quickly hid them and told the authorities they had already left.

Why did this harlot and resident of a godless town take such a risk? Hear Rahab’s words to the spies… and her heart of faith in Joshua 2:9-11.

I know that the Lᴏʀᴅ has given you the land.

We have heard how the Lᴏʀᴅ dried up the water of the Red Sea for you when you came out of Egypt.

The Lᴏʀᴅ your God, He is God in heaven above and on earth beneath.

Rahab’s statement of faith clearly reveals her astonishing faith and knowledge of God. She obviously knew who God was and what He had done for His people. She knew of His plan to give the land to His chosen race. And she knew He was the God of all heaven and earth. Rahab definitely had her facts about God straight.

Take time to think… and pray… and articulate your beliefs. Search the Scriptures too. How would your personal statement of faith read? How much do you know about God and His dealings with His people? How many of His attributes are you familiar with?

Know what you believe… and then, as Rahab did, declare your faith to others.
