When I Need to Forget Some Things and Never Forget Others

Posted on Jun 08, 2015   Topic : Weekly Devotionals

God has not given us a spirit of fear but of power and love and of a sound mind.                                                                                                                                                            2 Timothy 1:7

Dear God, today grant me what You promised: a spirit of power, a spirit of love, and the spirit of a sound mind. I need a sound mind in these tough days. A healed mind. Especially, I need for You to heal my memories and inspire my imagination.

Help me, dear God, to remember to forget some things and never to forget to remember others. I need to allow You to heal the hurting memories of the past: things I’ve done I should never have done, and things I’ve said I wish had never been spoken. Equally troubling are the things I wish I had not left unsaid or undone. In this time of honest prayer, I intentionally invite Your Spirit to dredge up memories You want to heal forever. I believe You can do it, Lord! Thank You for the magnificent gift of assurance of pardon.

Now, Lord, energize my imagination. Turpentine the layers of reserve and caution that immobilize my imagination. Clean it all away so I can picture what You want to do in and through me. Help me to see the new person You want me to be. In the same way, show me on the picture screen of my imagination what the people I love would be when filled with Your Spirit, what the situations that trouble me would be with Your solutions, and what the future could be if I let go of my icy grip and put it in Your hands. Thanks for healing me today! Amen.

I meditate within my heart, and my spirit makes diligent search. Psalm 77:6

Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart. Psalm 37:4
