Finding Hope in the End Times

Imagine sitting around the dinner table with your family. You’re about to dig into your meal when you feel something happening—a tingling, a lightness—and suddenly, you are airborne.

You barely have time to see the wonder on your family members’ faces when another face commands your attention: the face of Jesus in all His glory and majesty. All the pains, fears, worries, and sorrows of the world are left behind. Only joy, peace, and happiness await you in eternity.

This is the rapture. It is not just a story. It is not a feel-good religious fairy tale. It is an actual event that will take place in the physical world.

We live in a time of great anticipation surrounding Christ’s return, but it’s also a time of great apostasy. Many antichrists exist both inside and outside the church. As believers, we must know the truth of God’s plan for mankind and how we fit into it. It is in this knowledge that we find our mission and our hope.

Sometimes our questions about the end times create worry rather than excitement. Matthew 24 records the disciples responding in fear to news of the end. They stood at the temple with Jesus, and Jesus spoke: “Assuredly, I say to you, not one stone shall be left here upon another, that shall not be thrown down” (Matthew 24:2).

Troubled, the disciples asked for an explanation: “Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?” (verse 3).

Jesus then told them that a time of deception and danger was approaching quickly. Wars and false rumors of Christ’s return would have people shaking in terror, yet the disciples were not to be afraid. “For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of sorrows” (verses 7-8).

Though Jesus detailed a world spiraling into disaster, He made clear that upon His return, His followers would be richly rewarded: “Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom the master has put in charge of the servants in his household to give them their food at the proper time? It will be good for that servant whose master finds him doing so when he returns” (verses 45-46).

Today, the headlines in the news are bleak, and the world is on a downward trajectory. Yet the Bible asks that you don’t let your head droop in sorrow when you notice these troubles. Instead, look up—your redemption is drawing near. This should excite you! Jesus is returning for His church, and someday soon, we will meet Him in Heaven.
