A Prayer for Grandchildren Who Need Guidance

In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will.
Ephesians 1:11

One of the most important aspects of a child’s well-being is having a sense of who God made him or her to be. Part of the inheritance we have from God is that high purpose He has given us in order to do His will. Understanding that helps us to pray for our grandchildren to be given a clear vision from God about who He is and who He made them to be.

When children or young people have a clear sense of who they are, they don’t throw their lives away on something insignificant, at best, or damaging, at worst. They don’t look to the world to validate them. They look to the Lord.

We must pray that God’s voice to our grandchildren will not be drowned out by the world’s noise, but that they will clearly hear His voice to their heart, leading them in the right direction.

It’s dangerous for a child to have no sense of purpose. The ones who take drugs, commit crimes, destroy people and property, and accomplish nothing good have no sense of godly purpose. If you are praying for one of your grandchildren about this, don’t give up. Sometimes it takes a while in a young person who has learned bad habits of thought.

Remember, God can bring amazing breakthrough when we pray. I have seen it happen. One day an aimless, directionless, wandering child I know woke up with a vision for his life that could have only come from God. And he went full speed ahead to pursue what God had revealed to him. It was miraculous. And it happened in response to the prayers of his parents, grandparents, and family friends.

So keep praying for your grandchildren to be aware of God’s purpose for their lives.

A Prayer for Grandchildren:

Lord, I lift up my grandchildren to You. (Name each grandchild before God.)
Enable each one to understand who You made them to be. Reveal to
them the knowledge of who You are so they can understand who
they are in relation to You. Give them a clear vision for their life and
a sense of why they are here. Teach them to clearly understand that
they were created for a purpose. Help them understand what that purpose is.
In Jesus’ name I pray.
