Dreaming big has always felt effortless, but going after my dreams, confidently came as a much greater challenge. And you know what the key ingredient for confidence was? Building a community of support, truth, and mentorship. Doing this was key to establishing the confidence to believe in my dreams, and make them a reality. Here are some tips and tricks for building the support system you need to grow your confidence and pursue your dreams.

Find Your Dream Mate

Your dreams are uniquely yours. They are composed of your passions, your interests, your influence, and can often be a beautiful reflection of your most authentic self. But your dreams may not always be received and understood by everyone. In order to go after your dreams with confidence, it is important to surround yourself with a community of people who will support and encourage you every step of the way.

Dream Mates are the cheerleaders who will lift you up, celebrate your successes, and offer a shoulder to lean on during challenging times. They are the community of supporters who will help you push your dreams forward and continuously remind you of God’s power and provision in your life, on the sometimes lonely journey of dream chasing.

How can you find Dream Mates? It starts with putting yourself out there. Just as you need to put your dreams out into the world for them to actualize, you also need to step out in faith and vulnerability, in order to build a community and establish deep, intentional connections. Dream Mates can be found at retreats, within small groups or online communities, in book clubs or bible studies; the possibilities are endless. Sometimes meeting new people and finding that dream mate can be tough (or trial and error). But I promise the risk that comes with putting yourself out there is worth the reward that comes from finding your greatest cheerleaders! Just as we were created for community, our dreams have greater potential and power when they are shared.

Overcome Limiting Beliefs

It is time to put an end to those limiting beliefs that are holding you back and start showing up for yourself. You have been called to leave a mark on the world, but in order to do this, you must put in the work to overcome the barriers holding you back. When I first launched my own brand in 2015, I was terrified to take a huge leap and commit to showing up for a dream I didn’t know would pan out. I had to overcome this mindset of fear and stop believing that I was incapable of achieving the dreams I had in my heart. In order to dream big and go after your dreams with confidence, you have to stop allowing lies about your identity and capability to have power over your decisions.

Now is the time to stop giving those pesky, non-truths occupancy in your life. Instead, replace those limiting beliefs with biblical truths. Speak these truths over your life, and allow others to speak them over you as well. Put these reminders about your identity, your hopes, and your dreams out into the world, and chances are, you’ll start seeing them actualize.

Find a Mentor

Finding a mentor will allow you to approach your dreams with confidence. Mentors can provide expert wisdom to shift old perspectives, discover the steps that will help you execute your vision, and stay hopeful throughout your journey. Over the first few years of my business (and even now!), I leaned on the shoulders of incredible mentors who took me under their wing and taught me how to make the jump from dreamer to doer. I have witnessed the amazing influence and support that mentors can provide at the highest, mountain-top moments, and at the deepest valleys. Just as my mentors have offered insights that helped me “shortcut the distance” to my dreams, mentorship provides a unique opportunity to learn from those who came before you, gain advice on avoiding the difficult/painful routes, and confidently achieve your dreams.
