How to Turn Your Dream Wedding Into a Reality

Posted on May 06, 2021   Topic :

You may have been envisioning this day for years, or maybe you were caught off guard by a surprise proposal. Either way, you probably have a dream wedding in your head and could use a bit of help as you get started planning a wedding of your own. I love my job as a wedding planner. I become woven into the tapestry of the families we serve, helping to plan one of the most important days in a bride’s life.

If you have a long engagement, you are fortunate to have your pick of vendors, from the venue to the musicians. Most popular sites and vendors get booked far in advance. When you contact your professionals early, you can relax a bit, knowing your favorites are reserved.

On the other hand, if you have a short engagement, focus on the basics: guests, venue, dress, food, and decor. The wedding date may be determined as you choose your venue, and everything else follows that.

Keep an inspiration board of ideas that will make your day uniquely yours, from the centerpieces on the tables to the photographs you want taken. Whether you keep torn-out pages from bridal magazines in a notebook or save images digitally in a folder on your computer, be sure to keep them organized. Then you can show your baker the pictures of a cake or share your pictures of flowers with your florist. Each picture is worth a thousand words to the professionals who will be working with you and your wedding planner. No matter how large or small your wedding will be, organization is most important for your big day! Flowers, the cake, the dress, the food, the decor, transportation…if your vision for these things is clear, your wedding won’t look and feel as if it’s just thrown together. Time spent planning is never wasted!

Your wedding should reflect your personal style. Here are a few ideas to help you get started planning:

Before talking to anyone else, find out what your fiancé has imagined. Ask questions and listen carefully to learn what he likes and doesn’t like.

Decide what is really important to you both. Do you want all your friends there for a huge celebration, or do you prefer a more intimate setting? What are some of your highest priorities—fabulous food, elegant surroundings, extravagant flowers, great entertainment, a dazzling location?

Use inspiration boards to explore your likes and dislikes, just like designers do. Pin swatches of colors; pictures of bouquets, dresses, and hairstyles; phrases, quotes, and song titles; Scriptures…See how it all looks when you put your points of inspiration together.

Pinterest will become your best friend! You can keep your Pinterest wedding board secret if you like, inviting only those who need to see it. In particular, lock your “Dress” board so no one can see your dress before the day.

Would you like to include a theme in your wedding planning? A sport, movie, era, artistic style, or place? (Your theme might help you choose your venue.)

The fun really begins as you refine your preferences and your own personal style begins to emerge. What is the story you want to tell on your wedding day? Is it a garden wedding, a beach wedding, rustic, industrial, boho, Parisian, natural, woodsy, winter wonderland…?

Keep in mind the five senses…something beautiful to see, words and music to hear, delicious food to taste, candles and flowers to smell, and meaningful vows, readings, and toasts to touch the heart.
